Preparing for YOUR Home Inspection

At Hometown Inspection Services, our goal is to make the inspection process simple and to ensure you have the right information to make the best decisions for your family. Prior to your inspection, please ensure you have reviewed and completed the following:

Make sure the water and gas are turned on to the home.

All utilities must be turned on prior to inspection. If any of the utilities have not been turned on, the inspection cannot be completed.

2

Make sure the outside AC condenser unit can be accessed.

The outside AC condenser unit must completely visible and accessible in order to be inspected.

3

Clean and pick up all rooms in the house.

Ensure the house is clean and decluttered prior to inspection. This includes bedrooms, closets, bathrooms, counters, etc.

4

Make sure all appliances can be accessed and operated.

All appliances including the Microwave, Oven, Stove, Refrigerator, and Dishwasher must be clean and accessible. These appliances will be turned on during the inspection process.

5

Make sure all windows can be opened.

During the inspection process, each window will be opened. Remove all items from window ledges and open blinds prior to the inspection.

6

Have all remotes for the house available.

Have all remotes for the house out for the inspection (i.e. Garage Door Opener(s), Ceiling Fan Remote(s), etc).

7

Make sure the garage service door(s) and attic door(s) can be accessed.

During the inspection, the garage service door and both exterior and interior attic doors will be opened. Be sure to remove all clutter from these areas.

8

Make sure all bathroom sinks, tubs, and showers are clean and can be accessed.

Ensure all bathroom sinks, tubs, and showers are decluttered as they will be turned on during the inspection.

9

Make sure the furnace and air conditioning unit can be accessed.

Make sure the area surrounding the furnace and air conditioning unit are clear and accessible. All storage and personal belongings must be removed from around the furnace and hot water tank. If any meters are located in a hidden area of the home, make sure the inspector is aware of their
location. The inspector will be looking at the main water entry/meter, the gas meter, and an electrical panel.

10

Make sure all electrical panels, electrical outlets, and receptacles inside the house and garage can be accessed.

Ensure the electrical panel and receptacles are easily accessible. The electrical panel should be open prior to the inspection. The inspector
will need to unscrew and remove the cover plate door for proper inspection.
